Lecturers from the Agroindustrial Technology Study Program Provide Training on Utilizing Used Cooking Oil Waste to Make Solid Soap in Mengwitani Village

Badung, July 24, 2025 – The Agroindustrial Technology Study Program, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Udayana University, through the Udayana Mengabdi Program, carried out a community service activity with the topic “Utilization of Used Cooking Oil Household Waste into Solid Soap” in Mengwitani Village, Badung Regency. The activity was centered at the Taman Sari Traditional Village and was attended by members of the Taman Sari Traditional Village PKK, Mengwitani Village, Badung Regency.


The community service team, led by Dr. Ir. Dewa Ayu Anom Yuarini, S.TP., M.Agb., IPU., consisted of Ir. I Gede Arie Mahendra Putra, S.TP., M.TP., IPM., Ir. Putu Julyantika Nica Dewi, S.TP., M.TP., and Made Satria Wibawa, S.P., M.Agb.. This activity also involved the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Udayana University, Center of Excellence for Food Sovereignty Udayana University, and students participating in the 2025 Community Service Program (KKN) in Mengwitani Village.


During the activity, the Community Service Team provided information on the impact of used cooking oil on health and the environment, techniques for purifying used cooking oil, and steps for utilizing it to make solid soap. The participants, who were predominantly PKK members, not only received information but also had the opportunity to practice making solid soap from used cooking oil.


The Head of the Community Service Team, Dr. Dewa Ayu Anom Yuarini, said that this activity is expected to raise public awareness of the dangers of carelessly using and disposing of used cooking oil. Furthermore, the skill of processing household waste into useful products such as solid soap can become a small business opportunity with economic value for the community.


The activity received positive feedback from participants, who noted that the training not only provided new insights into household waste management but also opened up potential for family-empowerment-based business development. Through this program, Udayana University reaffirms its commitment to remain actively engaged with the community by contributing tangibly to the enhancement of knowledge, skills, and sustainable economic empowerment.
